Pablo Hernandez has travelled with the Leeds United squad to Preston North End despite lingering doubts over the fitness of the influential Spaniard.

Leeds, as they usually do, travelled to Preston last night ahead of Tuesday evening’s clash, with Marcelo Bielsa’s squad preparing for a crunch fixture in the Sky Bet Championship.

There were extreme doubts over the availability of Hernandez heading to Lancashire after the midfielder picked up a knock late in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Birmingham City.

He was seen leaving St Andrew’s in a protective boot, but the Yorkshire Evening Post note how he’s travelled with Bielsa’s squad to Preston and has a good chance of making tonight’s important clash.

Defeat to Birmingham on Saturday handed Sheffield United the advantage in the race for automatic promotion, with Leeds battling with the Blades for second as Norwich begin to pull clear.

If Hernandez doesn’t make tonight’s clash at Preston, Kemar Roofe will take up his role on the right of Leeds’ attack.

Roofe missed seven fixtures due to knee ligament trouble, but stepped off the bench at Birmingham over the weekend as Leeds looked to rescue a result.

The 26-year-old remains Leeds’ top goalscorer with 14 strikes this season.

The Verdict

This is big news for Leeds and should give the travelling support a lift heading over to Preston tonight.

Hernandez is so important to this Leeds side – he’s been involved in 23 goals so far this season and is comfortably Bielsa’s best player.

Leeds need a result tonight, and Hernandez making the trip gives them a better chance of getting that.
