Former Leeds United defender Ben Parker has warned the Whites about the potential threat of Cardiff City defender Aden Flint ahead of their clash tomorrow afternoon.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been formidable in defence this season and are starting to show that much-needed efficiency in front of goal as they continue their push towards automatic promotion.

The Whites are currently 11 points clear of third place and sit top of the table above West Brom on goal difference having conceded just 10 goals in 21 league games this season. Leeds boast the best defence in the country and they will be hoping to continue this when they face a Cardiff side looking to burst into the play-off places in the coming weeks and could move to within a point of the sixth-placed Preston with a win at Elland Road.

One thing that has been apparent for Leeds this season, however, is their clear vulnerability from set-pieces as four of the 10 goals they have conceded coming from corners, and another three coming from crosses.

This doesn’t make for good reading coming into a side built by Neil Warnock and developed by Neil Harris in Cardiff City who are notoriously dangerous from set-piece situations, unsurprising given the height they have in the side.

One player who is a clear danger in this aspect of their player is centre-back Aden Flint who is no stranger to a goal, as he has shown throughout his career.

Speaking to LUTV, Ben Parker has singled out Flint as a key threat for Leeds, where he said: "Aden Flint is a big presence at the back, but more importantly he's got two goals and four assists to his name; four assists from a centre-half is really impressive.

"A couple have probably been from heading the set-pieces back across the goal in the second phase and someone's been tapping them in.

"He's a big aerial threat, had a good career and scored a lot of goals at Bristol City.

"He's one of those people where you say we've got to stay close, we've got to mark him, but don't give cheap free-kicks away, don't give cheap corners away."

How much can you remember about the Whites' 2014/15 season?

The Verdict

Parker is right to outline this as a major threat for Leeds because of the complete mismatch in aerial presence that Leeds and Cardiff possess. Leeds are in the position they are because of their tremendous defence, but facing Cardiff will be a ‘tall’ order as they look to exploit a clear weakness of the Whites.

Marcelo Bielsa will be confident of coming out of this game with their winning run extended but it is sure to be a difficult contest as Cardiff look to play to their own strengths as well as Leeds’ shortcomings
