Noel Whelan has said that he doesn't envy Marcelo Bielsa's selection dilemma as he prepares for tonight's clash with Hull City.

Leeds United could move further away from third place Fulham if they were to get a victory over the Tigers, but picking the 11 players to take part at Elland Road could prove to be a challenge.

Kalvin Phillips is set to return after serving a one-match ban against Huddersfield Town, which means that ever-present Ben White is likely to slot back into his natural role in central defence.

However that means that one of Saturday's star players will likely be forced out of the team.

Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling played in central defence against the Terriers, while Stuart Dallas and Ezgjan Alioski played at full-back.

Speaking to Football Insider,  Whelan said that he doesn't know who will be dropped, but whoever it is will feel hard done by.

He said: "It’s a tough one for Bielsa and I don’t know who he will leave out, I’m a bit baffled on that one.

“Bielsa doesn’t normally drop anyone from the side, unless it’s due to an injury or suspension.

“The only time we really see it happen is when Liam Cooper has recovered from one of his injuries and Berardi drops out.

“You can’t leave out Alioski, as he gives you that attacking threat, Dallas has been outstanding this season…[Mateusz] Klich starts every game.

“You can’t leave out Helder Costa, Pablo [Hernandez] is the one who makes things happen. It’s not obvious who to leave out.”

The verdict

Marcelo Bielsa faces a selection dilemma against Hull City, but it's a problem that he'll be delighted to have.

Picking a starting XI out of a squad of players who are all at the top of their game is a nice position to be in, and the hope will be that the good feeling in the squad will be enough to help them extend their lead in the automatic promotion spots.
