Leeds United pundit Noel Whelan has revealed that the club are in "constant" talks with Tottenham Hotspur regarding the potential sale of youngster Jack Clarke, after speaking to Football Insider.

The 18-year-old burst onto the scene under Marcelo Bielsa last season, and quickly established himself as one of the most promising youngsters in the EFL after a string of eye-catching displays from off the bench.

Those substitute appearances soon became regular starting appearances, with the young winger finishing the season with two goals and two assists to his name.

Since the conclusion of what turned out to be a bitterly disappointing season for Leeds, Clarke has been attracting the interest of Premier League side Tottenham, who have been known for bringing in players from the EFL over the years.

And speaking to Football Insider, Whelan has revealed that Leeds are in constant talks with Spurs regarding Clarke, as Mauricio Pochettino's side look to land the exciting winger.

He said: "It’s probably the reason for the lack of transfer activity from Leeds so far - do they have to sell before they buy?

"There is obviously interest in Jack Clarke from Tottenham. The clubs are in constant talks over a deal and talking to each regularly about how a deal could be structured.

"Leeds want £20million for him, which, even in this market, is a lot of money for someone with talent, but who has a long way to go."

Clarke still has two years left on his current deal at Elland Road, so Bielsa's side don't have any reason to sell their homegrown star anytime soon, but with Spurs circling, a substantial bid could well prove to be too good to turn down.

The Verdict

I can't see Leeds or Bielsa wanting to sell Clarke this summer, especially given the impact he had at times last season.

He really flourished under the Argentine's management last term, and in my view, he would be daft to leave Leeds and join Spurs at this stage of his career.

Every player has a price, though, and it would be interesting to see how Leeds respond should a big offer come in for him this summer.
