Leeds United pundit delivers verdict on 19 y/o transfer interest

Noel Whelan has described the prospect of signing Rhian Brewster as ‘really exciting’.

The Liverpool youngster has been linked with a move away from Anfield with Leeds United and Crystal Palace both credited with an interest in the striker.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side could be in need of a new striker with Eddie Nketiah’s future up in the air.

According to reports, the Arsenal youngster could be recalled when the transfer window opens as the Gunners look to secure more regular first team football for the 20-year-old.

This means that a move for Rhian Brewster could be exactly what’s needed at Elland Road.

Speaking to Football Insider, Noel Whelan discussed the Liverpool starlet and said that a move could be ideal.

He said: “The whisper I’m hearing is that Brewster is a Leeds target.

“That would be a really exciting signing.

“Arsenal can recall Nketiah in January and there’s a good chance they will as he’s not started a single league game for us. They will want him at a team where he’s playing regularly.

A play-off finish in 05/06, but what was Leeds' exact position?

“If we lose him, we have to bring someone in. I think we would need two more strikers. One or two is not enough for a long Championship season.

“If someone gets injured you’re stuffed. Patrick Bamford doesn’t have a great injury record, so we could need to get two in. Brewster would be ideal, as he’s quick, young and ready to explode.”

The verdict

Leeds United’s need for a striker could kick up a notch if Eddie Nketiah does move on in January.

While it remains to be seen whether a move for Rhian Brewster is viable, he’s certainly a player with huge potential and one who could push Marcelo Bielsa’s side on in the second half of the season.
