Leeds United are prepared to spend big and complete the signing of Matej Vydra, The Sun reports.

Vydra could be set to move to Leeds from Derby County in an £11m deal, earning wages of £40,000-per-week at Elland Road.

Leeds have been chasing a new striker this summer after failing to replace Chris Wood's goals for last season.

A number of options were touted, including free agent Abel Hernandez, Middlesbrough's Britt Assombalonga and Aston Villa's Jonathan Kodjia.

But Vydra is Leeds' top target and they are ready to splash the cash to ensure he becomes a Whites player.

The Czech Republic international predominantly plays in the number 10 role - just behind the striker - but his goals have attracted interest from many clubs.

The 26-year-old netted 21 league goals last season to scoop the golden boot.

Prior to his move to Derby, Vydra had mixed spells in England, doing well with Watford but failing to impress during loan stints with West Bromwich Albion and Derby County.

Vydra's exit is likely to spark Derby into life in the transfer market as they look to sign Martyn Waghorn from Ipswich Town to accompany new boy Jack Marriott, who moved from Peterborough United earlier this week.

The Verdict

Vydra is a proven Championship goal scorer and he is exactly what Leeds need.

This is an expensive purchase but it pays off if he hits 20+ goals and fires his side to promotion.

I still feel that Leeds need one more player up front to add depth to their options once Vydra arrives but it is a step in the right direction and would be a marquee arrival.
