Leeds United could be set for another injury blow after Conor Shaughnessy went off in the U23 clash against Sheffield Wednesday earlier today.

Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Joe Urquhart revealed how the Irishman was forced off in the second period against the Owls, which left the side with ten men as the Whites had already used their three substitutes.

Even though the 22-year-old hasn't featured much for Marcelo Bielsa this season, any extended absence will be a concern for the Argentinian with Leeds' small squad suffering.

Gaetano Berardi was ruled out of Saturday's draw at Millwall, whilst Kemar Roofe, Pablo Hernandez and Patrick Bamford are also injured.

Shaughnessy's versatility, with the youngster capable of playing in defence or as a defensive midfielder, makes him a useful option for Leeds to have.

As well as that, the Whites are ready to embark on a very busy period of the season, with five games in the next 19 days.

However, it's too early to get a proper diagnosis for Shaughnessy's absence and Bielsa will be hoping that it's not too serious.

The Verdict

This is a potential worry for Leeds, not because Shaughnessy is a key player for them, but because he is a useful option to have.

The one positive that Bielsa could take is that the majority of the injured players at the minute are forwards, so they should be able to cope defensively.

Nevertheless, both the manager and the player will hope it's nothing too serious and the extent of the knock should be revealed in the coming days.
