Leeds United are lining up a loan swoop for Arsenal goalkeeper James Hilson according to a report from Football Insider.

The shot-stopper is set to be rewarded for his impressive showings for the club's youth teams with a new deal heading towards the summer.

But Leeds have reportedly made an approach to land his signature on loan ahead of next year's campaign, as they look to prepare for potential life back in the Premier League.

Hilson signed for Arsenal in the summer of 2019 from Berkshire-based Reading, and has seemingly made a good impression on the club's staff in his first season with them.

Leeds already have some strong options available to them between the posts, with Kiko Casilla and Illan Meslier being the first choice options at this moment in time.

It has previously been revealed by Football Insider that Meslier is keen to make his loan move a permanent one heading into the summer transfer window.

The Frenchman has come into the starting XI in Leeds' last few matches, with Casilla being handed an eight-game suspension for being found guilty of using racist language towards an opponent earlier this season.

Leeds will be hoping they can get over the line in the race for promotion under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa though, with the Whites currently sat seven points clear of third-placed Fulham in the second tier standings at this moment in time.

The Verdict:

This could be a smart move.

Hilson has looked impressive for the Arsenal youth sides, and is clearly a player that the Gunners hold in high regard if they're looking to tie him down to a new deal at the club.

Leeds already have some strong options between the posts, but they could certainly benefit from adding depth to their ranks ahead of next season.

Hilson could certainly add to the competition for a place in the Leeds team, and he could thrive under the development of some of the Leeds coaches.
