Leeds United defender Laurens De Bock could reportedly join Greek side Aris Thessaloniki following their Europa League qualifier on Thursday.

The 26-year-old has fallen out of consideration at Elland Road and spent last season on loan at KV Oostende.

Belgian outlet HLN have reported that De Bock has conducted “concrete negotiations” with the Greek club ahead of a move.

According to Greek site SDNA, Leeds have reached an agreement with the Aris over a one-year loan deal for the defender, however, it is directly linked to the outcome of their Europa League qualifier.

Aris travel to face Cypriot side AEL Limassol in the second leg of their Europa League second qualifying round tie on Thursday, with honours even after a 0-0 draw the first leg.

SDNA claims that victory in that game would provide the Greek side with additional revenue and therefore allow the deal for De Bock to be more easily completed.

The Belgian left-back arrived at Elland Road from Club Brugge in January 2018 and made seven appearances for the Whites during his first season.

He has not featured for Leeds since the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa last summer and it seems he may have made his last appearance for the Yorkshire club.

The Verdict

Bielsa’s treatment of De Bock has indicated that he sees no place for him at Leeds at all, so the sooner that this deal can get wrapped up the better for both player and club.

The Leeds hierarchy will likely be cheering Aris on in their Europa League qualifier on Thursday because it seems a win will give them the financial flexibility to wrap up the deal.

Unfortunately for the Whites, a loan deal is just a temporary fix. The defender’s contract with Leeds runs until 2022, so they likely will be facing this issue again next summer if a permanent move is not found before the transfer window closes.
