Leeds United’s Kemar Roofe insists he and his teammates are still aiming for automatic promotion from the Sky Bet Championship, despite losing ground on their rivals this week, reports the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Garry Monk’s side were held to a 1-1 draw with Fulham on Tuesday evening, where Tom Cairney’s last minute strike denied Leeds three-points.

The Whites draw, combined with Brighton and Hove Albion’s 2-0 victory over Rotherham United, has left Leeds fourth, nine-points behind the top-two with just ten fixtures of the season remaining.

While Roofe was adamant Leeds’ Play-Off place was not yet secure, he refused to give up hope of automatic promotion, he told the YEP: “We’ve still got a long way to go. Anything can happen and there are a lot of teams fighting for the positions. All we can do is do our job.

“We’re still fighting for second and until it’s mathematically clear that we can’t, we’re going to keep going and try to claw our way back up. And the thing is, the pressure is not on us. It’s on everybody else. We’re just trying to play with freedom and enjoy our football.”

QPR visit Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, as Monk’s side look to get back to winning ways and extend their five-game unbeaten run.

Following this weekend’s clash, Leeds host Brighton, where if they are serious about reigniting their promotion hopes, they must win.
