Leeds United have been boosted by the news that Pablo Hernandez has signed a new two-year deal at Elland Road and the Spaniard admitted he had other options but opted to stay.

The former Swansea man has arguably been the best player at Leeds this season, certainly in the past few months, where he has impressed with his ability on the ball and creativity in a poor Whites side.

Given that, fans were desperate to keep the 32-year old and were delighted when the news of his new deal was announced today.

And, journalist Phil Hay revealed that Hernandez told the press there was other clubs interested in him.

"I'm very happy. It's good news because I always said my intention was to stay at Leeds United. I had some options but I'm very happy here."

He added that some of those clubs were from Spain but he instead wanted to stay and help Leeds in their quest for promotion.

"I had opportunities in Spain but this is a special club and I want to achieve something here. In the next two years I think we can."

The Verdict

Leeds fans will be very pleased with the news of Hernandez' new deal and the fact he was prepared to turn down other clubs to extend his stay at Elland Road.

He has been one of few positives for the Whites this season and has shown he is a very good player at this level.

Hernandez is sure to be crucial for Leeds next season as they look to push for promotion, which is clearly his aim too.
