The clearing out at Leeds looks set to continue in the next few days following on from Souleymane Doukara’s departure yesterday, Toumani Diagouraga could soon be on his way out as well.

Reports from the Yorkshire Evening Post have revealed that the French midfielder doesn’t even have a squad number for this season and is expected to depart the club shortly.

Both club and player are willing to sever ties on the remaining 12 months of the player's contract which will give Diagouraga the chance to find another club as a free agent.

The defensive midfielder only signed from Brentford 18 months ago but his career in Yorkshire never got going and he now finds himself a forgotten man at Elland Road.

Diagouraga spent the latter half of last season on loan at Ipswich but failed to make any impact there either in just 12 appearances for the club.

Thomas Christiansen is taking no prisoners up until the closing of the transfer window and with his midfield being the biggest part of his squad, there was always going to be a host of departures.

The Verdict

This is an understandable one from United’s perspective.

Diagouraga was signed by Steve Evans but following Garry Monk taking charge he quickly fell out of favour and his career has never really recovered from that.

The 30-year-old should probably look a little lower than the Championship if he wants to find some consistent first team football.

There’s no point keeping him on the wage bill if he isn’t a part of Christiansen’s plans and with the sheer numbers they have in midfield, it is unlikely he will be missed.
