Ronaldo Vieira looks set to leave Leeds United this summer, with the midfielder poised to join Sampdoria for a multi-million pound transfer fee.

According to Sky Sports Italy, Sampdoria have stepped up their pursuit of Vieira over the course of the weekend and are willing to pay Leeds £6.2m to secure his service, with a medical planned in the coming days.

The midfielder hasn’t featured in Marcelo Bielsa’s strongest line-up over the course of pre-season, with the Argentinian head-coach looking at other options in central midfield.

Vieira has been a regular in the first-team in recent years, after Steve Evans handed the midfielder a debut on the final day of the 2015/16 season.

Since then, under Garry Monk, Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom, the 20-year-old has been a regular.

The England youth international has 71 first-team appearances under his belt for Leeds and has returned two goals during that time.

Vieira has been handed the No.8 shirt at Elland Road ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, and did start yesterday’s friendly against Las Palmas.

However, the midfielder was pulled at half-time and replaced by Mateusz Klich in the centre of midfield.

Vieira doesn’t appear to be pushing for a move away from Elland Road, despite finding himself down the pecking order.

The Verdict

Vieira is on the fringe of Bielsa’s plans, but he has unbelievable talent and selling him would leave a huge hole to fill for the Whites.

However, the bid is good and Leeds appear willing to sell the 20-year-old, surprisingly.

There is so much potential there with Vieira, but Bielsa clearly doesn’t rate the midfielder as highly as previous managers.
