Leeds United midfielder Eunan O'Kane, currently on loan at Luton Town, has suffered a serious injury that will rule him out of any further appearances for the Hatters.

The 28-year old joined Nathan Jones' side on loan just before the transfer deadline and has only played three games in League One, with a further outing in the EFL Trophy.

He was stretchered off just 13 minutes after coming on as a late substitute against Bristol Rovers, having suffered a fractured tibia and fibula. He is now set to miss the rest of the season, ending his six-month Luton stay.

He underwent surgery yesterday, but the road to recovery is going to be long and arduous. The Northern Ireland international will return to Leeds' Thorp Arch training ground for his rehabilitation, but he won't be seen on a football pitch again this season.

O'Kane signed a four-year deal at Elland Road last season, but was deemed surplus to requirements ahead of his Luton loan move. He has previously played for Bournemouth and Torquay, as well as making 47 league starts for Leeds.

The Verdict

This is a huge blow for O'Kane, he just seemed to have found a club which accentuated his skills and he suffers the injury.

He'd been edging his way into the Luton team, but his career is put on hold now. At least he has the security of a long deal under which he can work back to fitness without serious worries about his future.
