Young Leeds United striker has secured a move to League Two outfit Port Vale for the remainder of the campaign, the Premier League side have confirmed.

The 20-year-old Harrogate-born striker was snapped up by the Elland Road side in 2017 from York City and made his debut the following year in the Championship against Queens Park Rangers.

Edmondson has been a regular source of goals over the years for Leeds' under-23's side but made his first venture out on loan in 2020 when joining Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen.

After scoring twice and assisting a further two goals in 14 appearances for the Dons, Edmondson linked up with League One side Northampton for the rest of the campaign, scoring just once.

The striker has this season had an unsuccessful stint at Fleetwood Town after going scoreless in 11 third tier matches, but he's now set to get another chance in the EFL with the Valiants, who currently sit in sixth position in the League Two table.

The Verdict

Edmondson clearly has time on his side considering he only turns 21 in May, but he really needs to start making an impact at EFL level.

In fairness though, his time at Fleetwood wasn't one where he was making regular appearances, so maybe he just needs a manager who is going to show complete faith in him.

Dropping down to League Two for the very first time could breed some more confidence for Edmondson, who needs to find the goals he was scoring for Leeds' under-23's.

If he doesn't show some form in senior football at some point then he risks being cut loose by Leeds and with his contract up in the summer of 2023, this could be an important spell.
