Leeds United could be set for a welcome boost before their Championship opener with Bristol City on Sunday.

The Whites have seen plenty of activity come their way this summer in terms of transfers in and out of the club, and the last few weeks has seen midfielder Kalvin Phillips increasingly linked with a move away from the club, with Aston Villa interested in his services.

However, according to Sky Sports News' transfer centre, Villa are now not interested in making a move for Phillips, seemingly putting to bed any rumours of the Leeds man making a move away from Elland Road for the time being.

23-year-old Leeds star Phillips was one of the standout performers for the Whites last season as Marcelo Bielsa deployed him in a deep lying role which he excelled in over the course of the campaign.

Phillips' form though has caught the eye, and Villa were thought to be keen on making their move for Phillips, with the player reportedly set to see out his contract and seemingly force a move through next summer when he enters the last 12 months of his current contract.

Villa though are seemingly content with the arrival of Zimbabwean midfielder Marvelous Nakamba, and will now walk away from any potential bid to land Phillips.

The news will be a big boost to Leeds at the moment, with the club facing a fight on their hands to keep hold of start striker Kemar Roofe, with Anderlecht reportedly closing in on signing Roofe.

The Verdict

This could finally be the massive bit of positive news Leeds need after a summer which has seen them lose Pontus Jansson and now seemingly Kemar Roofe.

Phillips is so important to how they play, and he would be a massive loss, especially at this stage of the window.

It's huge news for Leeds and might finally give Phillips the chance to knuckle down and focus on getting Leeds back in contention for promotion in the coming season.
