Leeds United's seemingly never-ending pursuit of Southampton striker Che Adams has reportedly taken another turn.

United's hopes of signing the 23-year-old seemed over when the Yorkshire Evening Post reported on Wednesday that the Saints had turned down a third bid worth £20M.

The bid included a substantial loan fee then a payment of £20M should the Whites win promotion to the Premier League this season.

Despite this, The Daily Telegraph reported on Thursday evening that Southampton are still assessing the bid and will make a final decision on it over the weekend.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the Whites are hopeful of Saints' chairman Gao Jisheng that will reconsider the structure of the £20M bid.

Although Saints' manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has reiterated his stance at keeping the 23-year-old at the club, this latest twist will give United some hope in completing the deal.

Adams has only started two games for Southampton so far this term and is yet to score for the club, he has not started this calendar year for the club but has appeared off the bench three times.

On the situation, Hasenhuttl is quoted as saying: "We need every player, we need the squad. I don't want to let anybody go."

The Verdict

It seems that Leeds are not going to give this one up easily without a fight, and should the club pull it off will no doubt go down well with the fans.

I think it is getting to the stage that if Southampton were to accept the bid they would of done by now, and given the fact Hasenhuttl is so keen on keeping Adams at St. Mary's, it's hard to envisage this deal happening.

There is now only one week left of the transfer window, and the Leeds hierarchy need to be wary they could miss out on other targets due to this relentless pursuit of Adams.

It will be interesting to see what Southampton's owner makes of the offer over the weekend, but it is vital United have a number of contingency plans should it be yet another no.
