West Ham are set to pass up on the option of signing West Brom attacker Matheus Pereira this summer with the Hammers concentrating their resources on other players, according to Claret and Hugh.

Pereira has been linked with a move to a host of Premier League clubs this summer after he fired home 11 goals and provided six assists in 33 league games last term.

West Ham are one of the sides that have previously been credited with an interest in the Brazilian. Foot Mercato reported that the Hammers were one of the sides that were taking a serious interest in him ahead of the summer window.

There have been recent reports from teamTALK that West Brom are set to hold out for a valuation of around £15 million for Pereira. That comes after telling him he can leave the Hawthorns if an offer around that area comes in for him.

That report also revealed that the likes of Norwich City, Brentford and Brighton were also interested in making a move for him. While Leeds United have been linked with a swoop for him by other outlets.

Claret and Hugh have now reported that West Ham will not be one of the teams in the race to sign Pereira. That comes with David Moyes looking to secure a permanent move for Jesse Lingard instead.

The verdict

This will be an encouraging update for the other teams that are chasing a potential move for Pereira this summer, with West Ham arguably the most attractive potential destination that was available to the Brazilian with them being able to offer him the chance to play in the Europa League next term.

Norwich have now seemingly lost Emiliano Buendia to Aston Villa, and the Canaries would have the funds as a result to bring in Pereira as his replacement. That is a move that would make a lot of sense all around if it were to happen. While the likes of Leeds, Brighton and Brentford would all benefit from bringing in a player of his class.

It will be interesting to see who comes in with an offer that is deemed acceptable by West Brom for the playmaker. You would have to think that Pereira is worth at least around £15 million after his impressive form in the Premier League in a struggling side last term.
