Leeds United are negotiating a deal with Brescia for Marcus Antonsson, with the striker looking to secure a switch to Italy this summer.

According to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Brescia are negotiating a fee for Antonsson, with a view to bringing the Leeds forward in on a two-year deal this summer.

Antonsson looks set to end his two-year stay in England this summer, with his move to Italy edging closer.

Garry Monk signed the Swedish striker, 27, in the summer of 2016, with Antonsson agreeing a three-year deal with Leeds.

During the 2016/17 campaign, Antonsson featured on 21 occasions for Leeds across all competitions, returning three goals.

Antonsson didn’t fit into Leeds’ plans last season, with the Whites sending the striker out on-loan to Blackburn Rovers, who he helped win promotion in League One last season.

The 27-year-old featured on 34 occasions across all competitions during his year at Ewood Park, returning eight goals for Rovers.

With just one-year remaining on his deal at Leeds, Antonsson appears to be heading for the exit door permanently, with a move to Brescia and Serie B looking likely.

Antonsson’s move to Brescia will see him link up with Massimo Cellino, the owner who brought him to Elland Road.

The Verdict

With Leeds looking to make big changes to their squad this summer, Antonsson’s exit was to be expected.

A deal seems way down the line, with Antonsson’s exit seemingly on the horizon.

The sooner this exit, along with many others, is finalised, the better for Leeds.
