Whoever comes in as Leeds manager, one of the key areas they will be looking at freshening up will be left-back.

Gaetano Bernani and Vurnon Anita occupied the position for most of the season, yet neither registered a single assist or goal.

The position also rotated heavily. Laurens De Bock, Tom Pearce, Stuart Dallas, and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson all had starts in the role. This shows how much Leeds are in need of a reliable left-back.

To solve this situation, they should turn to £1.35m-rated Middlesbrough full-back Fabio.

The Brazilian was unfortunate to miss most of the second-half of the season after being the first choice left-back up until Christmas.

This change in fortune came as new manager Tony Pulis left him out of his plans, preferring George Friend.

This resulted in Fabio handing in a transfer request in January. A thigh injury prevented any clubs going in for him then, but that could all change now that he has returned to fitness.

Fabio offers more going forward than both Bernani and Anita. He attempts more dribbles, shots, and key passes than both of them. He also offers versatility as he is comfortable playing on either side or in midfield. These attributes would imbue Leeds with a more threatening aura and give their attacks another dimension.

Fabio is not the best left-back in the league.

However, he is competent, reliable, and dynamic.

This is more than can be said for Leeds’ current crop. He should be on the club’s shopping list.
