After such a promising start to the season, Leeds United have continued to decline this term and are facing a lower mid-table finish.

With nothing much to play for this season, Paul Heckingbottom will inevitably be thinking about his future plans and he will be drawing up a list of potential targets to bring in this summer if he is still Leeds boss by then.

Leeds got their transfer policy wrong last summer and brought in a number of unproven foreign players, with the majority proving to be below par.

This summer, the Whites should definitely consider signing more players with Championship experience so that they can launch a promotion bid.

With the end of the season looming, a lot of players are playing for their future and scouts will be out in their numbers to run the rule over potential summer additions.

Here are four players who Leeds should be scouting in the last few games of the season.

Leeds United have been linked with Celtic star Tom Rogic and he would be a fantastic addition to their midfield ranks.

Although he does not have experience of English football yet, the Australia international has been a standout performer for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and in the Champions League.

The 25-year-old only has one year left on his Celtic deal after this season and a summer move could be on the cards for the attacking midfielder.

Paul Heckingbottom is likely to look at his old club Barnsley for inspiration in the transfer window and a move for Andy Yiadom seems a no-brainer.

The Ghana international has been one of Barnsley's best players in the last two years and he has a good relationship with Heckingbottom.

With Gaetano Berardi picking up a lot of red cards this season, perhaps it is time to have a more level-headed right back at the club and Yiadom provides defensive solidity as well as attacking potency.

Leeds need a striker who can score enough goals to fire them into promotion contention, just as Chris Wood did last season.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Caleb Ekuban and Jay-Roy Grot have all failed to impress this season so Leeds should instead look at Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle, who is a proven goal scorer at Championship level.

The 27-year-old netted 23 in 32 Championship matches for Newcastle last season which helped them win the league and he has added a further five this season.

Rafa Benitez is likely to upgrade on him in the summer, meaning Leeds could swoop for the nippy striker's services.

Another striker option that Leeds should explore is Jack Marriott of Peterborough.

The 23-year-old only joined Posh in the summer but he has scored a remarkable 26 league goals this season, putting him five clear in the race for the League One golden boot.

Marriott can surely make the step up to the Championship and score plenty of goals in a Leeds shirt.
