Former Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn has told his former club to buy a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window, according to Inside Futbol.

Redfearn said: "I would strengthen the spine so that they can play [Ezgjan] Alioski and [Samu] Saiz. And [they] might even need a keeper. I think they've got to look domestically as well. They've got to look at people who have played at this level.”

He is absolutely right - Felix Wiedwald has looked nervous and unaccustomed to the direct nature of the second tier since his summer arrival from Werder Bremen.

That nervousness can permeate through a team and, while you can never blame the goalkeeper alone for heavy defeats, a case in point is that Leeds have conceded six goals in their last two matches, which has seen them slip to fifth in the table.

Manager Thomas Christiansen was right to try and upgrade Robert Green in the summer, who was an experienced coup for Leeds but always had a mistake in him himself.

However, looking closer to home at a goalkeeper who is used to the nature of the Championship may have been a better bet and something that the former APOEL manager should look at rectifying in January.

Otherwise, Leeds, who are a blistering attacking force under Christiansen, are in danger of becoming a Championship version of Liverpool.

A huge club, with a dangerous attack but with their ambitions to return to former glory hamstrung by a leaky defence undermined by a goalkeeper not quite up to the task.

Christiansen has done wonderfully since his shock appointment and he should move swiftly to rectify one of his few errors and replace Wiedwald.
