Leeds United defender Leif Davis has signed a new three-and-a-half deal with the club.

The teenager has been on the fringes of Marcelo Bielsa's first team this season, starting twice in the Carabao Cup and making two appearances from the bench in the Championship.

The Argentine coach suggested earlier in the season that the teenager can break into the league squad in the current campaign.

It appears the Whites are keen to keep Davis in West Yorkshire, as he has penned a new deal that sees him commit his future with the club until 2023.

The 19-year-old joined Leeds from League Two side Morecambe in the summer of 2018 and made his debut last season.

A versatile defender who is comfortable at both left-back and centre-back, Davis has made nine appearances for the Whites in total and has been a regular in Bielsa's matchday squads in recent weeks.

The teenager is the latest in a string of Leeds players to sign a new contract this season, with Kalvin Phillips, Stuart Dallas, Liam Cooper, and Mateusz Klich already having done so.

The Verdict

From Bielsa's comments and Davis' involvement with the first-team squad this season, the 19-year-old looks like he could be the next young player to break through into the Leeds first team–so tying him down to a new contract looks a smart move.

The Englishman was really impressive in the brief opportunity he got from the bench against QPR and could be useful in the Whites' promotion push.

The involvement of the likes of Jamie Shackleton and Jack Clarke in the past has shown Bielsa's willingness to put his faith in young players, so the pathway is certainly there for Davis.
