Leeds United have missed out on summer transfer target Gareth McAuley.

The veteran defender was one of many potential targets that Leeds United are said to have been interested in, but he has quashed any rumours of a potential move to West Yorkshire by agreeing a new one-year deal with West Bromwich Albion.

McAuley is now set to stay in the Black Country for another season, which will delight teammate Chris Brunt, who had called for the club to repay McAuley's loyalty by giving the player another contract.

The former Leicester City and Ipswich Town defender joined the Baggies in 2011 and has made 124 appearances in his time at The Hawthorns, scoring eight goals. Even as he enters the twilight of his career, McAuley still featured 24 times for West Brom last season, with boss Tony Pulis said to be a big admirer of the Northern Ireland international.

Although Leeds have missed out on what would have been a great addition to their unstable defence, the Whites are still set to make additions in that department.

Most notably the permanent transfer of loanee Sol Bamba, who had been a success in his five month loan spell at Elland Road. He caught the eye last season and was often praised for his leadership of the Leeds defence.

The deal is all but confirmed and Bamba should be a Leeds United defender come the start of the season.

Head Coach Uwe Rosler has also targeted Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson and young Leicester City prodigy Liam Moore as potential additions. The latter being an England Under-21 international and a fantastic all round player, which would prove that Leeds are aiming high in this summer's transfer market.

As Rosler plans for their first pre-season fixture against Harrogate Town on July 10th, the club is set to add a few players to their roster beforehand, with new head of recruitment Martyn Glover confirming the club are close on bringing in two targets before pre-season begins.
