Leeds United have a number of younger players on their books that have forced their way into the first-team picture under Marcelo Bielsa.

One of the brightest young talents to do that this season is Alfie McCalmont who made his senior debut for the Whites against Salford City earlier this term.

The 19-year-old didn’t look out of place either, and has gone on to feature for the Whites as a substitute on a number of other occasions.

So it’s clear to see that he’s a player with a bright future ahead of him, and his strong performances haven’t gone unnoticed as he received a call-up to the Northern Ireland senior team for their games against Luxembourg and Germany over the international break.

McCalmont made his senior debut against Luxembourg in a 1-0 win on Thursday evening.

The midfielder took to Twitter following this milestone, and was pleased to get the opportunity to feature for his country.

McCalmont will be hoping that he can continue to impress when he heads back to Elland Road after the international fixtures, and he could provide Marcelo Bielsa with a welcome selection dilemma for the rest of this year’s league campaign.

Leeds take on Barnsley on 14th September, where they’ll be hoping they can get back to winning ways, after a surprise defeat to Swansea City last weekend.

The Verdict:

He’s really impressed me so far this season.

Leeds’ under 23’s side were brilliant last term, so it’s good to see Bielsa trusting younger players in the senior side.

McCalmont is a player that has evidently caught the eye with his performances this season for the Whites, and to play for the Northern Ireland senior team so early into his professional career, is a real achievement.

Leeds need to tie him down to a new deal at Elland Road, as I can see clubs being in for him next year.
