Scunthorpe United have confirmed the signing of Leeds United midfielder Isaac Assenso on a one-year contract, as reported by BBC Sport.

Robins has snapped up Assenso

The 18-year-old impressed Mark Robins during a trial period, and made a move for the youngster after it was revealed he was being released by Leeds.

Assenso, who can also play at centre back, becomes Robins’ fourth signing of the summer, joining Stephen Dawson from Rochdale, and Jack King and Scott Wiseman from Preston North End.

His release from Leeds came as somewhat of a surprise, especially after former boss Neil Redfearn praised him for his “dominance in midfield” in a recent youth academy appearance for the Whites.

But Redfearn’s departure also spelt the end for Assenso, who has now signed his first professional contract with the Iron.

Assenso was a regular in the under 18’s for Leeds last season, and will be hoping to make a good impression as Scunthorpe look to build on last season’s disappointing 16th place finish.
