Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has come in for praise from former striker Noel Whelan.

Speaking on his own show on BBC Radio Leeds on Friday night, Whelan was quick to highlight the influence Phillips is having on the team at Elland Road, with Marcelo Bielsa opting to select the 22-year-old as one of his key men in the middle.

“I think Kalvin Phillips being dropped off into that deep is a massive plus for Leeds. We are seeing the benefits and we are seeing a better Kalvin Phillips on the ball, his range of passing, and he is the one who is pivotal to the way they play.” said Whelan.

Phillips has indeed become a key man for Leeds after proving to be a divisive figure last time out, with a large section of Whites supporters calling for Phillips to be moved on or dropped, citing his ability as not being up to standard for a club like Leeds.

The Whites are currently flying in the Championship this term, sitting top of the pile after eight games and impressing pundits and fans alike with some of their displays so far.

Leeds fans, what do you make of Phillips this season? Has he been a key man? Let us know in the comments!
