Mallik Wilks is not expected to stay at Leeds United this summer with a number of Championship clubs interested, according to journalist Phil Hay.

The 20-year-old excelled on loan at Doncaster Rovers last season, where he scored 16 goals in 55 appearances as he helped the club book a place in the League One play-offs.

Wilks has now returned to Elland Road this summer following the conclusion of his loan spell, but it now appears he could be on the move again as Leeds make room for new arrivals at the club.

It has been reported at the Yorkshire Post that new Hull City boss Grant McCann is interested in bringing his former winger to his new club, after managing him during his time at Doncaster, with Barnsley also interested.

Hull's prolific winger Jarrod Bowen is said to be attracting interest from the likes of Arsenal, and McCann is reportedly lining up a move for Wilks should Tigers' 22-goal man leave Humberside.

The Verdict

It seems a peculiar move for Leeds to let Wilks depart given his young age and the fact he was so successful at Doncaster last season.

However, I think Leeds' rationale is that they might be able to get a decent fee for a player who will likely be surplus to requirements at Elland Road next term.

Leeds have already strengthened their wing options this summer with Jack Harrison and Helder Costa arriving at the club, while Jack Clarke has rejoined on loan after signing for Tottenham Hotspur.

This means Wilks will be down Marcelo Bielsa's pecking order, but he could thrive with McCann at Hull after his exploits under his tutelage last term.
