Leeds United moved back to second in the Championship on Saturday after they beat Millwall whilst rivals Sheffield United fell to a surprise defeat.

Therefore, it was virtually the perfect afternoon for the Whites and the only slight negative was that Patrick Bamford failed to score for a third consecutive game.

The former Middlesbrough striker had a fantastic opportunity to hit his seventh league goal of the season but he saw his penalty saved.

As well as that, he missed other opportunities in what was a frustrating game for the 25-year-old.

However, boss Marcelo Bielsa has publicly backed the striker this afternoon and those words of encouragement are certain to be appreciated by Bamford.

At this stage of the season the pressure on every game is huge, particularly when you play for a club like Leeds.

And, the player himself will know he can't afford to pass up chances like he did against the Lions if the Yorkshire outfit are to return to the Premier League.

When you combine that poor recent run with the return of Kemar Roofe from injury, then Bamford might be getting anxious that he could lose his place.

So, Bielsa's reassuring message has come at just the right time and it will ensure the striker doesn't lose confidence.

Whether it's an impact role from the bench or playing alongside Roofe in attack, it's clear Bamford will have a big role to play in the run-in and he will now want to go and repay the faith his manager is showing in him.
