It has been an exciting couple of weeks for Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who has grasped an opportunity in Leeds United’s starting XI with both hands.

Paul Heckingbottom has handed the 21-year-old goalkeeper a chance at Elland Road, with Peacock-Farrell replacing the inconsistent Felix Wiedwald in recent weeks.

Peacock-Farrell has featured, and impressed, in a defeat against Wolves and draw with Reading, with Heckingbottom admitting that the goalkeeper is in control of the gloves ahead of the Sky Bet Championship run-in.

The 21-year-old has been rewarded for his fine form with a call-up to the Northern Ireland under-21 squad, who he will link up with later this month.

Peacock-Farrell will be battling with Conor Mitchell for the goalkeeping jersey, as Northern Ireland prepare for fixtures with Iceland and Spain.

Beren Cross of Leeds Live has pointed out on Twitter the magnitude of the task he will be up against if he faces the latter.

Spain’s under-21 side is likely to feature Daniel Ceballos and Borja Mayoral, who are both first-team pros at La Liga giants, Real Madrid.

Both Ceballos and Mayoral are on the fringe of the first-team at the Bernabéu, but have featured in the La Liga and Champions League during the 2017/18 campaign.

The Verdict

It has been an excellent couple of weeks for Peacock-Farrell at Elland Road, with the goalkeeper making a good impression in Leeds’ first-team and earning himself another international opportunity.

The opportunity of going up against two Real Madrid youngsters will be a bonus for Peacock-Farrell.

The experience the 21-year-old goalkeeper is earning towards the back end of this season should benefit him in the coming years.
