Pontus Jansson has expressed his delight after former side Malmo were drawn against Chelsea in the last 32 of the Europa League.

Leeds’ towering centre-back is a former Malmo player and an avid supporter of the Swedish club where he called home between 2009 and 2014.

Malmo have progressed into the last 32 of the Europa League this season and today it’s been revealed that they will face Chelsea in February.

Shortly after the draw, Jansson took to social media to issue a message on Malmo’s draw, which translated to: “AWAYDAYS February 21, LONDON will be stained sky!! See you there!”

Between now and then Jansson will be looking to help his current side back into the Premier League, with regular fixtures against Chelsea guaranteed if Leeds can clinch promotion.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are on a five-match winning streak that has boosted their promotion chance, with Jansson playing a key part in that run.

The Whites have conceded just one goal in their last five outings, with Jansson featuring in three of those.

Injuries have played their part in recent weeks, but the 27-year-old has started Leeds’ last three fixtures at the heart of Bielsa’s defence.

The Verdict

Jansson’s connection with Malmo is something that he’s very public with and the Leeds man is clearly delighted at the prospect of watching the club he supports play in England.

It’s fair to say that the centre-back has a similar bond with Leeds and is absolutely key to the club’s chance of success this season in the Championship.

His performance in the 1-0 victory over Bolton at the weekend was superb.
