Leeds United man responds to Eddie Nketiah’s latest Arsenal outing

Leeds United youngster Leif Davis has commented showing his support for Arsenal starlet Eddie Nketiah following his goalscoring exploits against Everton on Sunday.

The Whites signed Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal on a season-long loan from the Gunners in the summer with the view to keep him all season, providing competition for Patrick Bamford, however, he struggled to make much of an impact from the bench as Marcelo Bielsa kept faith in Bamford.

It took until late in December for the England under-21 international to make a league start for Leeds, as Nketiah came in to replace an injured Bamford for the 5-4 victory over Birmingham City.

He started the following game on New Year’s Day against West Brom but failed to get involved and was hauled off for Bamford, for it later to be confirmed that he was heading back to North London.

Since then, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has kept him with the side as he looks to continue his first-team development at the Emirates.

His first goal upon his return from Elland Road came in the 3-2 win over Everton on Sunday as he latched onto a Buyako Saka cross to divert into the far corner, putting the hosts back on level terms before they went on to win the game.

Nketiah posted on Twitter following the game, to which former teammate at Leeds, Leif Davis responded:

Do you know where Leeds signed these players from?

First of all, where did Leeds sign Patrick Bamford from?

The Verdict:

It’s clear that Nketiah is still well-respected by his former teammates and was a key part of the dressing room, despite only being there for six months.

There was the general expectation that Nketiah was to return after struggling to force his way into the Leeds lineup and he is performing well at Arsenal now.

Arteta has managed to find a place for him to start alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the league and it is paying dividends at the moment.

It’s nice to see that the players have stayed in touch even after Nketiah’s quite visible frustration at not getting as much playing time as he wanted.
