Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping tabs on Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips according to Football Insider.

However, the report claims that Jose Mourinho's men will only consider a move for the 24-year-old if Leeds aren't to win promotion back into the Premier League this term.

Spurs were one of the sides interested in signing Phillips during the summer of 2019, with Manchester United also being credited with interest in the midfielder.

But Phillips signed a new deal with Leeds, and will be hoping that he can play his part in their long-awaited promotion into the top-flight.

He has made 32 appearances in all competitions for Marcelo Bielsa's side, as they currently sit second in the Championship, with just 13 games remaining of this year's campaign.

A recent slump in form was ended at the weekended as Phillips returned from his suspension to play his part in their narrow 1-0 win over play-off chasing Bristol City at Elland Road.

Phillips and his Leeds United team-mates are next in action on Saturday, when they take on Reading in a game they'll be expected to pick up three points from.

The Verdict:

Promotion is so, so important to Leeds United this season.

They've been somewhat of a 'sleeping giant' for a number of years in the Championship, and they look as though they're finally ready to make the step up to the Premier League this term.

If they aren't to win promotion from the second-tier this season, then I wouldn't be surprised to see a number of players leave the club.

Phillips is likely to be one of the first names out the door as well, as he's already shown that he's far too good of an option to have in the Championship.

Leeds simply must win promotion this season, or players will depart in the summer.
