Jamie Shackleton has expressed his delight after agreeing fresh terms with Leeds United.

New broke yesterday that Shackleton had agreed a new three-year deal with Leeds, extending his stay at Elland Road until the summer of 2021.

Later on Monday evening, the academy graduate then took to his personal Twitter account to state that he was over the moon after agreeing to extend his stay at Elland Road.

The versatile 18-year-old impressed head-coach, Marcelo Bielsa, over the course of pre-season, playing in a right wing-back role as an alternative to Luke Ayling.

His form over pre-season put him in Bielsa’s thoughts, with the Argentinian handing Shackleton a debut in Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Derby County.

Shackleton stepped into a central midfield role to replace the tiring Mateusz Klich, completing the best part of 20 minutes at Pride Park as Leeds cruised to victory.

Now, after agreeing his contract extension, Shackleton looks like he will be handed his first start of the season this evening, as Leeds entertain Bolton Wanderers in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

Bielsa has confirmed that Shackleton will be amongst a number of players to start their first game of the season against the Trotters.

The Verdict

Shackleton is clearly delighted with his new contract, with Leeds moving to hand the youngster a real boost following his debut.

Bielsa has obviously seen something in Shackleton that he likes, with this new contract now giving the youngster extra motivation to establish himself in the first-team.
