Leeds United man issues passionate message after contract update

Leeds United skipper Liam Cooper has revealed his delight after he signed a new five-year deal with the Whites.

The centre-back, who joined from Chesterfield in 2014, has established himself as a key player under Marcelo Bielsa after a tough few years initially.

And, he has been rewarded for his impressive form in the past 18 months with a new deal, which was announced by the club last night in a double deal with teammate Stuart Dallas.

Speaking to the club’s official site, the 28-year-old expressed his happiness to have secured his long-term future and admitted he wants to continue to help Leeds’ rise.

Me and my family are over the moon and what a way to do it with my best mate (Stuart Dallas) as well. It’s a bit of a co-incidence, but as soon as Leeds wanted to extend my stay it was a no-brainer for me.

I have had an unbelievable five years here and I feel like I have really come into my own in the last couple of years and I’m enjoying my football more than ever. We’ve got a great squad here, the ambition of the club is massive and I’d be silly not to want to extend.

We have come a long, long way over the years, Andrea Radrizzani came in with a lot of ambition, he had a vision where he wanted to take the club and we are getting there.”

The verdict

This is fully deserved for Cooper as he has been superb for Leeds since Bielsa arrived and this new deal reflects that.

The fans will love to see the passion from the defender and it shows what playing for the club means to him.

As he says though, it’s about kicking on now and he will want to be the man that leads the Whites back to the Premier League as they have the quality in the squad to do just that this season.
