Leeds United took a huge step towards booking their place in the Championship play-off final at Wembley later this month with a 1-0 win away to Derby County.
Kemar Roofe’s clinical finish in the second-half proved to be the difference between the two sides on the day, and the Whites will be keen to take their advantage into the return fixture on Wednesday.
It was Roofe’s first goal since returning to the Leeds side from a lengthy spell in the treatment room, and he’ll be keen to build on this impressive showing.
The former Oxford man has been kept out of the starting XI in recent weeks, with Marcelo Bielsa opting to start Patrick Bamford ahead of Roofe, despite his poor run of form in front of goal.
But Roofe looked back to his best against Derby and this will be a real bonus for Leeds as it couldn’t have come at a better time, with some crucial games approaching for the Whites.
If he can continue to impress, then he could be the man to fire Leeds back into the Premier League, which certainly would go down well with the Elland Road faithful.
With Patrick Bamford suspended for the remainder of the season for his role in the unsavoury scenes in the draw with Aston Villa, Bielsa desperately needed Roofe to step up and perform to a high standard.
He’s done just that, and it’s vital that Leeds keep him fit and in peak condition, as without him in their side, there will be serious concern that the Whites won’t win a long-awaited promotion back into the top-flight.
A season-defining game coming up on Wednesday, that Roofe will head into full of confidence after his latest impressive showing against the Rams.
