Leeds United striker, Caleb Ekuban is edging closer to completing a permanent move to Turkish side, Trabzonspor according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Ekuban arrived at Elland Road in 2017 for a fee believed to be in the region of £500,000, but he's struggled to make a notable impact for the Whites in his time with the club.

He made seven appearances in total for Leeds last season, but was immediately sent out on loan shortly after Marcelo Bielsa took charge of the first-team last year.

Ekuban didn't endure the best of spells out on loan, but Trabzonspor have evidently been pleased with his performances, as they have opted to take up the pre-agreed option to sign him permanently.

He netted five goals in 29 league appearances, although the forward only made 12 starts for the Turkish side.

Marcelo Bielsa doesn't see Ekuban as part of his plans for the future, and he'll be keen to trim the wage bill at Elland Road over the summer.

Bielsa recently penned a new deal with the club, and he'll be keen to win promotion to the Premier League, after falling short in the play-offs against Derby County.

But it seems as though for any potential incomings, there will have to be departures at Elland Road, and Ekuban's seemingly imminent exit won't come as a surprise.

The Verdict:

This is the best move for both parties.

Ekuban is never going to be featuring for Leeds this season, and the Whites need to clear out the 'deadwood' in their side at the earliest of opportunities.

I'm expecting this to be the first of many departures at Elland Road over the summer.
