Leeds United left-back Leif Davis has lifted the lid on the hectic build-up to his first-team debut earlier in the season, with Bielsa telling him he would be starting moments before kick-off, report the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The 19-year-old started against Aston Villa during the dramatic 3-2 victory just before Christmas, saying his last-minute call up triggered a bit of a whirlwind.

"I didn't get time to think about it," Davis said.

"I only got told three minutes before kick-off.

"We came in and got dressed and I was getting ready to be on the bench. Then Marcelo said 'you're starting' and it was all a big rush."

Davis was brought into the Whites youth team from League Two Morecambe back in the summer and was called up to the first-team squad after impressing for the reserves.

Since the clash with Villa, the defender has gone on to make three more appearances, all from the bench, as he looks to help the club back into the Premier League.

Leeds currently sit in third place with 32 matches played this season heading into this weekend's clash with Bolton Wanderers, but only behind second-placed Sheffield United on goal difference and two points away from league-leaders Norwich City.

The verdict

You have to admire Davis immensely after reading this.

He did not have an outstanding game against Villa but he managed to hold his own and coped mentally against one of the league's most menacing attacks.

It will be great for the fans as well, knowing they have a player in reserve who could comfortably slot in if called upon.
