Leeds United new boy Patrick Bamford has praised Kemar Roofe's performances as 'brilliant' after his goalscoring start to the season.

Many felt Bamford would get the nod up top after joining from Middlesbrough in a multi-million pound deal, however, Marcelo Bielsa started with Roofe after working with him throughout the summer.

And, the former Oxford man has repaid Bielsa's faith with two outstanding performances against Stoke and then Derby, netting twice against the latter.

Even though that has meant Bamford has got just 12 minutes of action in the league this season, he told the Yorkshire Evening Post he is happy to be patient as long as Roofe is playing like this:

"He was brilliant at Derby and took his goals brilliantly. I’m really happy for him and, as long as he keeps going, the team will do well. I know that might mean I have to wait a little bit to play but I’m ready whenever."

The former Chelsea man also feels Roofe has benefitted from an extended period working under the demanding Bielsa:

"Having six weeks with him, things become more natural whereas I’ve been here two weeks. It might take longer."

Bamford did get a start in the Carabao Cup last night against Bolton Wanderers, scoring in the 2-1 win.

The Verdict

This is a great attitude from Bamford and fans will be delighted to see how he has responded to starting the season on the bench.

As Bamford says, Roofe has been brilliant and deserves his spot in the team as he is integral to the way Leeds play.

However, it's a long season and his chance will come.
