Leeds United midfielder Ronaldo Vieira has delivered his verdict on loan signing Lewis Baker, with fans set to be impressed at their midfield addition.
23-year-old Baker has joined on a season-long loan from Premier League side Chelsea, having been with Middlesbrough last time out. His Riverside spell saw him make 12 Championship appearances and score once, but Vieira is convinced he’s going to be a big player for Leeds.
“He’s been unbelievable,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post. “Lewis is a good guy and as soon as he walked in all the boys were welcoming with him and talking to him. Where we have been staying we have been doing stuff together and it’s been a great addition to the team I think. He’s a great player.”
Luton-born Baker joined Chelsea as a nine-year-old but has played just once for the Blues, in a 2015 FA Cup tie at Derby County.
He’s been on loan with Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons, as well as Boro. However, it was in the Netherlands he made the most impact, spending two seasons with Vitesse Arnhem, helping them to a 2017 Dutch Cup win.
Baker is undoubtedly talented, but his Chelsea career is going nowhere at all. If he gets a full season of games under his belt at Leeds, he could well be the shrewdest move of the summer.
Long-term, he surely has to leave Stamford Bridge to ignite his career and should he do well this season, Leeds would be a great place to do just that.
