AFC Bournemouth are said to be interested in signing Leeds United midfielder, Kalvin Phillips according to Football Insider.

The 23-year-old was hugely impressive for Marcelo Bielsa's side last season, but was left frustrated as Leeds missed out on a chance to win promotion to the Premier League.

They were beaten by Derby County in their Play-Off semi-final at Elland Road, which saw them miss out on the opportunity to be one game away from a return to the top-flight.

It means that potential player departures are on the cards ahead of next season, and interest in Phillips won't come as a surprise.

He has previously been linked to the likes of Aston Villa and Norwich City (according to the Daily Mail), although it remains to be seen as to whether an official bid to sign him will be submitted by any of the teams rumoured to be interested in his services.

Having made 42 league appearances in total for Leeds last season, it's clear to see that he's rated highly by Bielsa, who will be keen to keep hold of his key players over the summer.

Bournemouth could be a tempting proposition for Phillips though, as the Cherries have a good track record with giving young English talent a chance in the Premier League.

Phillips will be hoping to have his long-term future resolved as soon as possible, so that he can focus on next year's campaign, which could well be in the top-flight.

The Verdict:

This would be a really good signing by the Cherries.

Phillips has hardly put a foot wrong all of last season for Leeds, and he's a player that is more than capable of adjusting to the step up to the Premier League.

He'd offer the ideal protection from midfield to the Bournemouth defence.
