Leeds United have made an enquiry for Newcastle keeper Karl Darlow as Marcelo Bielsa looks to strengthen his squad in the January window.

The Whites were dealt a big blow earlier in the season after on-loan Chelsea stopper Jamal Blackman suffered a broken leg whilst playing for the U23s.

That means Leeds are struggling for senior cover behind number one Bailey Peacock-Farrell and signing a keeper has been a priority ahead of the New Year.

And, the Yorkshire Evening Post have revealed that Darlow is a serious target for the Championship leaders, who are hoping to strike a deal early into the window.

The 28-year-old has lost his place at St. James' Park to Martin Dubravka and with talented England youngster Freddie Woodman coming through the ranks it appears Rafa Benitez might sanction a move for Darlow.

The report adds that Leeds are keen on doing a loan deal initially for the former Nottingham Forest man, who the Magpies value at around £4m.

Darlow played 34 times for Newcastle as they won the Championship in the 2016/17 season.

The Verdict

This will please Leeds fans who are sure to be delighted that the club are trying to move quickly to address the goalkeeping issue.

Clearly, someone needs to arrive to compete with Peacock-Farrell and Darlow fits the bill.

He has proven himself at this level, has won promotion and is available. It's a no-brainer and Bielsa will hope that the deal can be concluded as soon as possible.
