Leeds United have made an approach to Newcastle as they look to bring goalkeeper Karl Darlow to Elland Road before the deadline.

Kiko Casilla is the current number one for the Whites, however he struggled since arriving in England in January and made a high-profile mistake in the play-off semi-final against Derby.

So, there had been talk that Marcelo Bielsa and the recruitment team would look to bring in a keeper and Football Insider are claiming that they have made a move to land Darlow.

Martin Dubravka is the first-choice at St. James' Park and even with Steve Bruce coming in it seems unlikely that he will dislodge the Slovakian.

Therefore, the former Nottingham Forest man may push for a transfer and the chance to go to Yorkshire may appeal if he is guaranteed regular football.

Should the deal go through, it may signal the end of Casilla's time in England and also Bailey Peacock-Farrell, with the Northern Ireland international supposedly attracting attention from Burnley.

Leeds were linked with Darlow in December 2018 before eventually signing Casilla from Real Madrid in the winter window.

The Verdict

This would be a good signing for Leeds as the goalkeeping position has been something of a problem over the past 12 months.

Peacock-Farrell, even though he is young, didn't always impress so you understood why they went for Casilla but his form was no better and given his high wages, a move would make sense for the club.

So, if they could bring in Darlow, who has proven himself at this level over the years, it would be a very smart bit of business.

Now, it's about agreeing a fee with Newcastle and given the stopper struggles to get in the team, you would imagine that a deal can be agreed.
