Leeds United have entered the race to sign Liverpool midfielder, Ovie Ejaria according to journalist, Courtney Friday.

It has previously been reported by Alan Nixon that Ejaria is edging closer to completing a move back to Reading for the season.

The Liverpool midfielder spent last season with the Royals, and was hugely impressive for Jose Gomes' side in the 16 appearances he made.

It is understood that Reading are still the favourites to land his signature once again, but Leeds' interest could potentially turn his head.

He played a crucial role in their turnaround in form since the turn of the year, and without him and the other loanees at the club last season, they would surely have been relegated to League One.

So there was real relief around the Madejski Stadium when they confirmed their status as a Championship club for another season.

Leeds could be a tempting offer for Ejaria though, with the Whites likely to be challenging for promotion into the Premier League once again.

Marcelo Bielsa's side narrowly missed out on promotion last season, after they were beaten by Derby County in their play-off semi-final.

The Leeds boss is seemingly trying to conduct his transfer business early into the window, with Helder Costa also being linked with a move to Elland Road (according to the Yorkshire Evening Post).

The Verdict:

This could throw a spanner in the works.

Ejaria looked like he was set for a move back to Reading, but Leeds' interest in him will surely turn his head before completing a move to the Berkshire-based side.

I still think he'll go to Reading, but it will be interesting to see if Leeds submit a formal loan offer to tempt him with a move to Elland Road.
