Leeds United have taken to their official website to deliver an update on the club’s badge to supporters, with the Whites confirming they have reopened the consultation stage and are willing to let fans design the new crest.

There was controversy at Elland Road last week as Leeds revealed their new badge to the public, which consisted of a silhouette doing the ‘Leeds salute’, which received widespread criticism and mocking from across the world of football.

The Whites promised to reopen the consultation phase, with most recent updates confirming they will allow supporters to send in their own designs, before selecting a shortlist for Season Ticket Holders and Members to vote on.

Leeds have confirmed that a decision on the club’s new crest will be made by the end of February, with the new crest coming into play at the start of the 2018/19 campaign, as originally planned when unveiling the new design.

The Whites were founded in 1919 and next season will mark their centenary year, which is one of the motivations surrounding Andrea Radrizzani’s desire to move away from the club’s current shield.

The Verdict

After the mayhem that surrounded last week’s reveal, this is the news Leeds’ supporters will have wanted.

Over the course of the last week, the club have seen numerous badge designs put forward to them by supporters, and the process Leeds have eventually opted for seems the sensible one going forward.
