Former Leeds United man Danny Mills has likened on-loan Manchester City winger Jack Harrison to Jason Wilcox in his play-style, and backs the club to seal a cut-price permanent deal in the summer.

The Whites completed the loan signing of Harrison for the second time in the summer, looking to build on his strong development in the 2018/19 season where he helped Leeds to come so close to automatic promotion.

He arrived this season along with Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Ben White in a double loan deal which has helped massively strengthen their push for promotion at the second time of asking.

Harrison has been a revelation this season as he looks to improve on his end-product both in front of goal and creating chances for Patrick Bamford and co. He has already managed to beat his tally for both goals and assists from last season, as he currently stands on five goals and six assists.

He was desperately unlucky not to add to that against Hull City at the weekend as his shot assist to Pablo Hernandez hit the woodwork before he hit the post himself.

It was revealed by The Athletic in a Q and A that the Whites are eager to exercise the option to sign the winger permanently in the summer for a fee of £7million.

Speaking to Football Insider, Danny Mills commented on whether Harrison has done enough during his current loan spell, where he stated: “At the end of last season I think Manchester City wanted £15million for him, he is good but he has not got a pack of diamonds in his pocket.

“That was a little bit expensive for how well he had done. Now, the option at £8million is very viable indeed.

“He reminds me of Jason Wilcox. He is going to hug the touchline, get good crosses into the box and works his socks off. Very rarely lets you down. He is of that ilk. He is not the type of player that will get you 15 goals a season but what he gives you is width and work rate.

“At £8million, whether it is Premier League or Championship, it is a really good buy.”

Are these Leeds United facts true or false?

The verdict

The reported transfer fee for Harrison would definitely be a deal worth doing for Leeds regardless of the division they are in next season.

He is proving with each passing week that he is improving in his performances and it is no surprise that he has been an ever-present for Leeds this season in the league.

His efforts against Hull at the weekend were arguably the best Leeds have seen from him this season, even though he didn’t manage to add to his goal involvements tally.

A lot of the key players at Leeds this season are in on-loan and will be looking to seal permanent moves, but the priority should be with Harrison’s deal.
