Leeds United are keen on loaning out full back Laurens De Bock, with Fleetwood Town showing interest.

According to The Sun on Sunday (29/07, page 63), Leeds are looking to temporarily offload the left back after completing the signing of Wolves defender Barry Douglas yesterday.

De Bock, who made seven appearances for the Whites last season, signed at Elland Road in January for a reported £1.5m.

Fleetwood Town’s new manager Joey Barton is poised to take on the defender, as his side edge closer to the start of their League One campaign.

The Belgian left back hasn’t hugely impressed fans since his arrival from Club Brugge, but injury setbacks have hindered him from showing his full potential.

The loan move will allow him to gain first team football experience, whilst offering Fleetwood the opportunity to have a high level player in their ranks for the upcoming season.

The Verdict

With experience across all levels of international youth football for Belgium, there is no doubt that the defender will be able to do well for Fleetwood Town.

While it may be disappointing for some Leeds United fans, most will feel like a loan move away from Elland Road is the right thing for De Bock this season.

The defender will gain experience, and perhaps will be able to return to Elland Road as an improved player, although Douglas' arrival, combined with talented youngster Tom Pearce, suggests he has no long term future at the club.
