Sky Bet Championship side Leeds United have reached an agreement to sign Reading midfielder John Swift, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The 23-year old has been a standout performer for the struggling Royals this season, and it is believed that Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is a huge fan of the exciting playmaker.

The former Chelsea man has scored four goals and produced three assists for the Berkshire club this term, but looks increasingly likely to leave the Madejski Stadium in the summer despite his contract running out in 2022.

Reports have now surfaced, though, claiming that promotion-chasing Leeds United have agreed a deal to sign Swift in the summer, regardless of which division the Royals find themselves in next season.

The Royals currently occupy 21st spot in the league table and sit just one point clear of the relegation zone, with just six games of the season left to play.

Leeds, on the other hand, are fighting for automatic promotion at the right end of the table - after a 1-0 defeat to Birmingham City at the weekend, they have now dropped to 3rd position.

The Verdict

I think Swift would be a very good addition for Leeds regardless of which division they find themselves in next season.

They need another playmaker to challenge Klich and Hernandez, and have missed that extra bit of creativity in the middle of the park since Samu Saiz left.

Can he cut in the Premier League if Bielsa's men find themselves there next season? It will be very interesting to see...
