Jack Clarke is hoping to discover where he stands under new Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho as his loan spell back at Leeds United continues to bring little game time.

Leeds sold Clarke to Tottenham in the summer transfer window before bringing the teenage winger back to Elland Road on a season-long loan.

However, that loan spell has been a struggle for Clarke, with the winger starting only two League Cup games and featuring from the bench just once in the Championship.

And, with Mourinho replacing Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham’s boss, The Athletic note how Clarke is keen to see where he fits in at the North London outfit in the New Year.

The report also states that Leeds can do little when it comes to Spurs recalling Clarke in January given the player’s lack of playing time, with it looking like the winger will be heading back to his parent-club.

Last year, Clarke scored two goals and registered two assists in 24 Championship appearances, but this term he’s managed only 19 minutes from the bench at Luton Town, with Jack Harrison, Pablo Hernandez and Helder Costa ahead of him in the pecking order.

The Verdict

Clarke’s situation at Leeds isn’t ideal for anybody involved; Leeds have a player that doesn’t seem to fit the plans, Tottenham are watching their man waste a year out on loan and Clarke will feel his development taking a hit as a result of this.

Him wanting to learn what Mourinho thinks of him is completely understandable and he will want to prove to the new Spurs boss that he’s motivated to play games and not sit on the bench in the Championship.

It feels like this is going only one way in the January transfer window.
