There have been few positives for Leeds United this season after a disastrous 2018 saw them slip way out of contention for the play-offs.

However, despite even more off-the-field issues also coming up, there's one clear reason for optimism at Elland Road and that has been the emergence of several talented youngsters coming through.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell has been outstanding in goal, whilst Paudie O'Connor has been strong at the back in recent games.

Another to catch the eye is left-back Tom Pearce and the 20-year old scored his first goal with a wonderful strike against Barnsley last time out.

That followed another impressive display prior to that, where he managed to keep Robert Snodgrass very quiet when Leeds fell to a 1-0 defeat.

And, journalist Phil Hay has revealed that Paul Heckingbottom indicated the former Everton man is being offered a new deal to extend his stay in Yorkshire.

The club will be eager to tie the youngster down as his current deal is up at the end of the season.

6ft 1 Pearce is sure to be involved again on Saturday as Leeds travel to face Norwich City.

The Verdict

Leeds fans will be glad to hear that the club are actively seeking to get Pearce a new contract although some may be concerned that his recent performances will attract interest from elsewhere given he can leave in the summer.

However, the reality is Pearce will be loving life at Leeds at the minute and both will want to sort a new deal as soon as possible.

When it's sorted, it will be thoroughly deserved and the next challenge for Pearce is to continue this form next season.
